Monster??
I'm sure it is a good snowblower, and it will do someone well, but i do not consider mine a monster, and it is way more of a snowblower then that is.
Let the bidding begin!!

Bob - either that or he's just boring. I see his stuff on Ebay quite frequently. EVERY snowblower he sells is a "monster"...
The 5hp machine is IDENTICAL to my MTD 611D. Its FAR from being a monster!

Here's 2 of my own "monsters"

The top one is a whopping 5hp with a massive 24" clearing width!
The BIG Ariens also has a killer 5hp with a 20" clearing width!
Both are READY to take on GODZILLA snow conditions baby!
Yeah right... :D

I always wondered if the Toro drum auger was a gimmick or actually
improved the snow intake.
The last time I saw them they were on the PowerShift models that were eventually discontinued.
The PowerShift mechanism reminded me of those Transformer Toys when it operated placing more weight on the chute when needed.

Hmmm..I don't really know if it's a gimmick or not, but mine gobbles snow pretty well...I can tell you!
My belief is that it was much more cost efficient to go back to the conventional auger because of the simpler manufacturing processes involved...it probably also reduced shipping weight...therefore saving additional costs.
As far as the powershift models go, I'd like to grab one if I could...just to see if it really matters in regards to "big snowbanks"!
One of the nicest features of the older Toros is the scraper bar that is spring loaded and self-adjusting.
My paved driveway has little bumps & ripples because it's old, and the floating scraper helps get down to the pavement better...without digging in or getting "jammed" on the high spots! I know this because I've run newer machines with pre-set scrapers on my driveway....and it left more snow on the low spots, and would jam on the high spots.
I really like it. :)

OTO, my 11/28 has the adjustable scrapper bar, and has you even with the paved driveway, I used to get a gut of handle bars on the old blower with the fixed scrapper. And from the driveway to the walkway areas was one of the worst.
Zero gut pokes with the new Toro.
I had read that the old larg drum was used to help regulate the snow to help reduce chances of clogging.
My friend moved from NH, has had a power shift Toro with the drum for years up in NH, and swears by it.
