When are you guys in the North East going to get some white stuff to play in? Any white Christmas possibilities?
Date: 23 Dec 2006 9:05 am
Cloudy and rain here. I hate a green/muddy Christmas.

In NE PA there is a possibility of snow Christmas day. If it snows at all, it
will be the heavy wet stuff. (this will test my impeller kit)
The rest of the week will get colder with a chance of snow here and there. No significant accumulations though. (per NOAA)

The forecast for this season was a late start but about 10% more snow than average. That would be about 50" compared to 40-42 (little under average) last winter and 89 the winter prior. Boston usually has its first snowfall of over 1" between December 13-16.
The greater Boston suburbs get substantially more because they don't have the ocean effect. The observatory at Blue Hills a few miles south and inland averages over 60".
November 2006 was one of the warmest and wettest on record. Currently 39% of New England has snow cover - basically the Appalachian chain - but it's rained or raining throughout most of the region.

Some folks on this forum seem to live in especially snowy neighborhoods.

Almost 60 degrees here in NJ today. Rain & low 50's are forecasted for Christmas - at least I don't have to worry about driving (snow)...

Sad not to see snow....but Christmas Steak on the Grill will be fun in the middle of winter.
Date: 23 Dec 2006 8:20 pm
yea 50's today, sun came out during the afternoon.
Unseasonably warm...
Calm before the storm?

60 here today. 55 tommorrow. Went out this morning after the rain stopped and it smelled like worms having some quality time in the early spring after a rain. Felt like getting the fishing rods out. If this keeps up when HD has the 60% off sale on snowblowers, I'm getting at least one. I thought about it last year and still regret not getting one.

Same here, this will be our first green Christmas both in NH and where we are now in St. Andrews. Kinda weird....

HD has like 8 snow blowers or so.
a few ariens, one each of a 11hp & 9hp , two 5's or 6's small chassis ariens, then a murry style 5hp and two single stage toros.
One of the little 5hp ariens it real dusty dirty.
That's it, never got the sidewalk full of them in like they did in the past years.
Both of the bigger ariens, the chutes worked nearly perfect. None were sticking and or travel messed up like last year.
Seems they got their ducks in order, for the couple they have.

Brown Christmas for us here in Southern Maine. We had 1 small working storm 3-4 weeks ago and that has be it. Meanwhile temperatures have been warm.
Our ocean temp is running about 8 degrees F above normal. Makes for nice diving when the seas sit still long enough to have some visibility.
Just as well I'm running way late on all sorts of extra winter prep. Planning to hang the blower on the tractor tomorrow and get the rest of the odds and ends into the basement. The lawn is still 1/2 green.
Meanwhile we have passed the solstice so the days will soon start lengthening and that eases things a lot.
I hear this week that they had declared an El Ninio Pattern to be established. Look for a nice early spring but we have the potential to get hammered bad over the next 8 weeks. For the moment we have nothing but unseasonably mild temperatures forecasted through 1/1/07

Darn, I knew I shouldn't have jumped the gun on that 50 % off sale early this year. :( Guess I'll just have to live with that $450 Toro 826 LE.
I still tell my wife it was the deal of the century, at which she just rolls her eyes. :P

The snow still isn't happening for us.
I did get 2 inches yesterday, it was enough to take the tractor out for a test run.
Looking at the 10 forecast other than a little freezing crud early New Years day it's looking unseasonably warm right through January 9th.
Today it's going back up to 40F,
Date: 31 Dec 2006 5:16 pm
Same story here Spectrum.
Some rain and freezing rain tonight. Seven day forecast shows all highs in the 40's. Better start checking at HD for another blower sale.
My lawn looks nice and green though. :P

Nothing but rain, rain, rain here in NJ. Heck, I had to run my auxiliary pump for 2 days to drain the pool so it doesn't overflow...

Officially, Boston has received 0.8" of snow this season in two events. That's down about a foot from average, already.
Date: 1 Jan 2007 12:30 am
Absolutely Zip here, hasn't even really been cold enough except for one or two nights.
Little rain now and then.
They say our temps should be dropping in January, back to normal levels.
Date: 1 Jan 2007 3:21 am
Nothing here yet either... That's why I was working on that snapper. I had to get a new tarp to cover my Tractor... Someone (My Brother) Ran over the edge with one of my mowers and chewed it all up. Now it has vis-queen over the engine, a blue tarp cover the entire machine, and a Motorcycle cover over that.
I was bored.... I should have taken the carb back off while I was there, oh well. Maybe I'll take it off the next nice day, and stop up Marty's with it and let him work his voodoo on it. Normally I don't do too bad with the tecumseh carbs, but this one is being real stubborn.
