I was bidding on a Honda 828 snowblower on an ebay auction over the past several of days. It finally ended last night and I was the fourth highest bidder.

As of 5 pm today I have received four emails of second chance offers from four different individuals all claiming to be the seller of the blower I bid on. I wouldn't be surprised if I get more.

Folks, be wary of this scam. There are scumb*gs out there preying on the unsuspecting.

Just a heads-up for those who are not aware of this.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Another one of the latest scams. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

One I've received in the past, and 3 times in the last 2 days is the official looking e-mail from paypal saying there was a problem with my acct.
If anyone receives something like that, forward it to:

spoof@paypal.com

They usually reply back that it is bogus and to not do anything with it.

Your right.......Scumbags.

Just for chuckles...I'd be tempted to copy/paste all the emails into one message and send it back to all of them in a carefully worded flame.

Funny - I have received a few over the last week, ALL pertaining to Honda brand snowblowers. I had been bidding on 2 also in the NJ/PA area. Apparently, "we" OPE nuts aren't the only ones who know that these machines are pricey. Makes them attractive to scammers... WATCH OUT!

Then there is this beauty - a rusty old Ariens. He's lowered the starting price from $495 to $475. There are half a dozen on local craigslist for $250 or so.

SCAMMERS   :x
I HATE SCAMMERS

i bid on a air compressor last week and @ $4600. i was outbid, darn.
even before the sale had ended i received a BOGUS 2nd chance offer to buy the compressor. since then i have received 5 more BOGUS 2nd chance offers to buy the compressor.

some of these offers look alot like real ebay 2nd chance offers...the one thing that a real 2nd chance offer has that a BOGUS offer does not have is your name as registered with ebay.

Just like the one Contrabass Bugle (Like a tuba but for marching) I was outbid on. I think I bid up to 1200 dollars on it. Not even 6hours after the auction was over I had a second chance offer. So full of Schitt. Shame too my buyer really wanted the bugle.

I think a lot of sellers are Schill Bidding too! They can kick you off ebay and prosecute you. They took a group to court in California last year for doing that crap.

I'm old fashion. I buy local whenever possible. I have purchased three things over the Internet. My Norton subscription is one, figure that's pretty safe. Heck that might not even count as one? Three baitcasting reels from Bass Pro Shop and that was only because the store was down to one at the sale price. Third was an original grip for a gun that hasn't been made in 45 years. Tough to find that new at Academy.

I've never bought anything off of eBay. I started registering once and got interrupted, a phone call or something, and stopped. I got an e-mail a few days later saying I needed to finish my registration and provide CC information. I copied the e-mail and sent it to eBay and they told me they never sent it and would never ask for that info. I haven't been real comfy about registering since.

In eight years I can think of only 6 things I've bought over the Internet: 2 CDs, 2 books from Amazon, some specialty stationery and of course..the new Dell. Never anything from Ebay or the like, just not on my radar screen. I consider myself wary, but I know that even the wary can be cheated. There are plenty of places where I can go to spend $ if I wish. The lure of some great bargain is not enough to make me want to take a chance on an unknown or swim with the sharks. Even though I've never registered with Ebay or Paypal, I get phishing emails from conartists almost daily....including banks and brokerage accounts I've never had. Very sad.
