Hello,
I am having trouble with my Internet explorer. It is doing some very odd things.Sometimes it will completely close the page i am visiting for no reason or it will be very slow loading pages and when i say slow i mean very very very slow for eg i tried to google something and after 10 minutes of the page trying to load i gave up.I thought that it was perhaps the topic i was searching so i tried putting in random things to see if that made any difference but it didn't.Another problem i had was when i was on a forum and clicked on a link and nothing happened i tried to open a new tab and that wouldn't work either and it would let me access any options that are in my tools menu.i had to restart my computer.Just to let you know i have high speed Internet connection. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this problem.

This sounds like a classic case of spyware and or virus's. Please download and installed "AdAware SE Personal" and download and install "Spybot Search And Destroy" and run a scan. Both of those programs will remove spyware off your system causing trouble. It would also be a good idea to run a anti virus scan as well. Please download and install "Free AVG" anti virus and run a scan for virus's.

Adaware SE Personal
Adaware Free Download

Spybot Search And Destroy
Spybot Free Download

AVG Anti Virus
AVG Free Download

PS: Get away from IE, its a death trap. Its not secure and is a open door to such things as spyware and hackers. Please use Opera or Firefox in the future. Hell, Netscape is even better than IE and thats saying something. lol

Yup, sounds like you hit the nail on the head there.

Hey Termy, this avg anti-virus.... any good? I would assume that you are suggesting it because you trust it. How does it work.... ie always free and keeps updating it's virus data? or free for a while then we drag you under like a bad Jaws remake?

I have heard it around but never really checked it out. Now that McAfee whats to suck more blood out of me cuz my supscription is dead (I'm tired of buying their kids new cars for X-Mas), I find myself looking for a cheaper way (and free seems to be in the right price range)... But I would rather pay and feel secure then to trust a freebie and not know if I am as protected as they want me to believe.

AVG has been in my opinion the best anti virus program that is free to download and run! It always updates itself every day without asking you to pay for it and is always updated so you don't have to worry about nasty little virus's getting around you. Though AVG has been free for many years now, they are finally going to cancel their free version sometime next January. So if you want AVG as a permanent solution, you should purchase version 7.1. I will be because I love AVG, I will say it again, it has been the best anti virus program I have ever run! It gets rid of all virus's I have ever encountered over the years that I have run it and it does not come bundled with spyware like the ever popular over rated Norton system works bundle! It is user friendly and does not hog system resources to run hence norton...

get those programs suggested above, install them, reboot into safe mode and start scanning.

Ad Aware has a very good forum for support in removing spy ware stuff.

Your full of it. It's trying to do all sorts of things on the web.

SpySweeper is good to, but $20-$30 for the year, finds more than the other two together do.

BUT no program gets ride of it all the pests.

After the programs tell you your clean and you still have a problem....

There are two hijackings that I've come across that none have gotten ride of , but are show my "HiJackthis".
The prefix hijacking for IE.
And the DNS entry hijacking for IE.
I've told all three mentioned above about it and nothing.

To the left, midway down are places to download this free program.
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Unless you know your way around the registry.. you'll need to get on one of the free hijackthis forums and work with them.
They will tell you to do a scan and post the results and they will tell you want to delete and how to do it in what steps.
HJT doesn't automatically remove the bad stuff, it just shows the vital entries in your registry and lets you delete the bad stuff, once you know the bad stuff.

It will take some time

FWIW-
I wouldn't necessarily attribute the symptoms you describe as spyware adware, et al...without us knowing a little more about the system you're running..how old, RAM, etc.
ANY of the symptoms you describe could also be a result of running too many programs loaded "high" in your start up files.

Way, way... too many probabilities for problems other than spyware, IMO.

Not saying it's not possible..but we need more info...any info...

Agreed, look and see what's running at startup. You can download Startup Inspector for Windows, cool program. Thanks Bob.

After you get your PC free from spyware and get you Startup stuff right, download the FireFox browser and dump IE. You'll not get as near as much spyware or viruses attempts. Better browser anyway.

Very True OTO and Marshall.

You can right off the bat try FF.

Many attacks are directly to IE.

If FF runs fine... you can be fairly sure there's something up with IE probably related to hijacking or spyware.

If FF runs slower than 90weight in the winter.

Then you've got a lot of house cleaning todo , if you have a fairly up to date machine.

The thing is , many adware and spyware programs are soo badly written, that they can slow down your machine cause there's just enough of them are on there, it's eating up memory , crashing, and just hogging your resources.

So either as OTO says, too many other legit ad on's running in memory, loading at start up. OR some crap-ware as well.

I like to clean house first, make sure spyware/adware isnt a problem, then clean house of liget, but not needed things that are loading at startup.

I hate IE, I use IE as a last resort backup solution. Otherwise, I will use Opera, Firefox, or Netscape...
