On a side note while working on my HS35 tonight, I drained the oil that hasn't even seen 30 mins of use from last season, and it smelt strongly of gas.

Is this related to a bad gasket?

b00t, If the tank is higher than the carb and the needle and seat are bad the fuel can leak right down into the crankcase. I have been putting shutoff valves on some of my stuff. My Honda powered generator has a shut off valve for the fuel from the factory as part of the carb linkage.

thanks rob yes mine has exactly that. Gas tank is right above carb, and I know for a fact that float and neddle was bad on my old carb cause gas would leak out around the bowl seal.
