Forums Archive Index > Outdoor Power Equipment > Help finding source for blower belt for BOB-CAT 1976 blower
Date: 8 Dec 2006 11:47 am
A friend of mine has an old Bob-Cat snowblower (year 1976), it is a 7HP model, and he's been looking a while to replace the long blower belt on it, without success. Right now he has to hand-carve/modify a similar-shaped belt but then it ends up not having a long life.
Inventory of bobcat was sold to a company called EDM which in turn apparently sold it to someone else, whatever that was left... anyway, the belt is discontinued from them for sure but I was guessing there might be a cross-reference part# that could be used from a third-party company?
I was told it is "not a common 3L or 4L belt. It has an odd groove profile"
I don't have the serial number with me but I can get it if that would help.
Any help appreciated.

Hugo - if you can get the EXACT model & serial numbers off the machine, and which belt he needs (auger or traction drive), I have a belt listing for old Bobcat snowblowers & might be able to help you out...

Hi Marty,
Here are the numbers I have:
T7-2-24-12418
65091
I believe it's the one for the auger (to be confirmed soon). From what I remember, it is the belt with the most uncommon shape, as the other one I think he can easily find a replacement for. I'll try to get more details tonight anyway.
Thanks for the help.

Hugo - The model numbers you listed did not match anything in my book, but I found 2 "odd" belt sizes in my listings for Bobcat:
Gates 3VX600: dimensions 3/8" x 60"
Gates 3V530: dimensions 3/8" x 53"
These also have odd "pitch" angles, or the "V" shape where the belt rides in the pulleys. I bet its one of these two belts. Just have him measure the circumference with a tape measure. In fact, the 53" belt for the auger needs to be used in pairs per the Gates book...

Marty,
OK, some more info.
It is the auger belt that is needed. The year of the bobcat would be a 1976 (and not 78 as previously posted) and the number 65091 is what is written on the belt itself.
The length of the Gates #3V530 is fine (53 inches is what he needs), however, the bottom section of the 'V' would need to be even more narrow (only a very little flat surface at the bottom of the V)
Not an easy one!

I just retrieved an old email with this information:
Gates P/N of 3v530 for the auger belt and P/N 6837 for the wheel drive belt. I also found the bob-cat listed on this website http://www.gates.com/part_locator/index.cfm?go=part_locator and it confirms the Gates p/ns.
