Just did an update last night and IE7 was there for the taking.
Saw it was 7.05, I usually like to wait for a .1, but
what the heck, jump off the bridge and try it.
Been reading about it for a few months now.
So far no problems.
Seems they are just chasing FF. Tab browsing being the newest and most evident thing about IE7.
Has an entry for "manage add ons", pop up blocker, anti-phishing.
Kept everything but one or two few logins / passwords.
Just got a few minutes into playing with the tool bars.
The address bar window is stuck at the very top of the window, where usually the text menu is.
I've tried a few different things to drag it down to where I like it , but noooo, doesnt drag around like the rest of the menus.

I see no need to move from Firefox.
Date: 7 Dec 2006 10:05 am
Neither do I for every day stuff.
But since the two don't act the same and don't present everything the same I try to use both to test with.

Yea, every once in a while I run across something that requires IE in order to do something on. I think I've run into that 2 times since I have switched to FF a couple years back.
I bet you see it more though in what you do.

I've been using IE7 for a few weeks now at work. I accidently clicked yes to the update. :oops2: I like it so far, I think, but I usually don't change the looks of anything for the computer illiterate here at work. Mom looks at the symbols at the top of the page and doesn't know what to think. I didn't want to play around with it to much, pretty much keep it the way it came. After all she has to learn sometime and she knows I'm only a phone call away. :( I've sat at home with either Mom or Dad on the other end of the phone and walked them through where or what they wanted. I have great respect for someone that does it every day. The latest was with Dad and the laptop he got Mom last Christmas. The thing may have 3 hours on it and that's pushing it. I had installed a B&S generator CD into it and he couldn't find it, so I closed my eyes and directed him. Now this year I'm looking for a mouse to go with the thing so maybe da Mama won't be so scared of it.

PS - Sorry for the babbles, I find it cold, even though the thermometer says it's warmer then usual so I type to keep the blood circulating.

Is it just me, or is IE 7 slower than crap?!
I still prefer FF...

Aspects for the tables used to format the layout of the pages can come out different in FF VS IE. Plugins work different.
I love FF, it was nice to see mozzilla grow into FF...
Live with IE. Hey it's MS, what's not to hate about it?
Hated Netscape, yea I know it was the basis of mozzilla, but I never took a liking to it and plugins were always clutzy.
But had two different versions running at one time.
but as you Marhsall, on occassion there are things that only work on IE.
I've even found sites with screwed up code that wouldn't display in FF, but for some strange reason IE overlooked the code errors and displayed the site instead of just lines fo codes as FF does.
There was a time I would keep 3 browsers on my machine.
But FF and IE will never be exacly the same. But atleast it's down to those two.
Sherri, what sort of mouse are you looking for?
Corded, wireless?
Egronomic?
budget?

I think we'll be looking at a cordless, batteryless type deal. The more bells and whistles I can get to make Moms life easier, I think I'll go for it. In Canadian $60 or so I'm thinking. Dad and I are arguing about which one of us is going to by it.

The most bells and whistles one out there with no batteries and great cordless is the MX1000.
All sorts of buttons to do things.
Sort of designed for lots of browsing and office work and moving between it all.
Last a few good days on one charge (and I use it all day), and charges fully over night.
I liked the MS mouses, but found the Logitech to be a somewhat better on accuracy and dont jump around like the MS did to me on occasion and the wireless is stronger on the logitech.
I have not tried the newest MS mouses that came out a few months ago.
I would only assume the latest MS mouses have gotten better.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to check it out. Now Chris thinks I should be looking at getting a corded mouse, as they don't use it often and he thought that a cordless would always be "dead" when they went for it. *SIGH* I'll be crazy yet again trying to figure out what I should be looking at.

O.K., I give. Where is the email icon on the new IE7??
Date: 7 Dec 2006 12:27 pm
Well if they use it once a month, he has a valid point (sorry  )
They are meant to be used and recharged.
And of course if they happen to knock it out of it's charger slightly, it wont be on charge and they may not notice and it could be dead by the time they use it.
The newer mouses using lithuim Ion batteries do hold a charge better when not used, than the old ni-cads.
It will easily hold a charge for a couple - a few weeks when not used at all.
Buuuuuttttttt....
If they aren't using it much and don't tend to put it on charge or make sure it's in right, they could be mouseless... which in this case is a bad thing.
You know the users better than I do..

you have to add it.
hover over the other icons.. the home / print and such.
Right key click and select, Customize Tool bar.
Then Add or remove Icons.
In the left hand menu you'll find "Read email".
The basic layout it is different enough, for the first few hours it's annoying.
But I'll get use to it.
But so far I am pissed I cant get the address bar window back down to where it use to be. I annoyes me up there.

I know, I think too. But Dad said about a wireless and no batteries. I'm going to talk to him again, but usually once he gets something in his head, it's so extremely hard to get out.

I hear ya, well I can tell you that the MX1000 from logitech lasts for 3-4 days with heavy daily use and holds a charge real well. But it doesn't get a rest with me and sit for weeks. But again being Li-Ion batteries, they hold a charge over time better than Ni-cads or Nickle metal hydrides.
It has a battery meter on it to.

Wow, he said to look at corded ones. So I'm off in search of one of them.

Just talked to Chris' in law type person that works at The Source and he's putting aside a MICROSOFT® COMFORT OPTICAL MOUSE 3000. So hopefully I'll stop on the way home from work and pick it up. Thanks for the info on mice.

IE7 kills some programs. I can't use it one machine because it has quickbooks on it. I'm not jumping ship to IE7 yet. I do use IE and FF. FF is about 95% of what I use.
Date: 7 Dec 2006 8:15 pm
Well your not missing much.
I hadn't heard that about IE7.. stinks, but leave it to MS.

I don't understand. I made the switch a couple of weeks ago, and so far, after getting used to it, I seem to like IE7 I guess.
It's the part about Quickbooks that I don't understand. I have QB on this computer and it seems to be working fine. I have discovered no problems at all. Now, I don't use the online stuff in that program, so maybe that is where the problem lies.

Ken,
QB and my accountant both sent me emails and told me not to upgrade to IE7 because IE7 and my 2005Pro were not compatable at this time. QB seemed to indicate that they or MS would be coming out with a patch. I did not upgrade on that machine so I don't know what goes bad. Last thing I need at work is a dead QB. BTW this post is done with a machine with IE7. I like it so far also.
Date: 8 Dec 2006 2:46 pm
Ahhhhhhh.....
I am running a slightly older QB program, and have not upgraded as I do not have the need for the new bells and whistles that are included. Even though Intuit figures I do!

Very interesting how MS made some core change with IE7 that effects a 3rd party software like that.
It's amazing how QB went from a an almost personal check book program to running soo many assorted business.
Date: 8 Dec 2006 3:12 pm
I think text displays funny even when the text enhancer thing is off.

Hey Ken,
I was cleaning off the desk and found the fax from the accountant.
www.quickbooks.com/support/ie7

I never read what the QB site had to say I just did not install ie7 on my QB machine.

I've upgraded to IE7. Since I mostly use FF, my major concern was would IE throw a wrench in the work-at-home thing that I do....because the Company insists on IE only. Thankfully, no problems have occurred...though I think IE7 seems to load just a tad slower than IE6. If that means it is more secure (as they claim), then I guess it's an ok trade-off. But on the whole, I'd rather FF.

I think all the new warm and fuzzy smooth graphics are making it a bit fatter tooo.

I'll keep Safari...... :D

I've been running IE7 for about a week and a half now (previously running IE6). For me, I find it slower to start up, pages don't load, pages load slowly, and LOCKS UP to where I have to close the page & restart IE7.
Is there a way to revert to IE6? If not, Firefox may be my next move...
Marty
Date: 17 Dec 2006 5:28 pm
Marty..
Go with FF.
They aren't supporting IE6x anymore.
So the ony security upgrades will be for IE7.
I do see IE7 running a bit slower than IE6. must be all the warm and fuzzy graphics and built in tools that load with it.
Date: 17 Dec 2006 7:59 pm
Updated it today. Once I got my settings the way I like it I have been having no problems so far. We shall see long term. As for delays loading webpages I am not sure yet. First time loading a page maybe but after that it is as quick as before. I'll keep playing with it some more and see what I can see....
