From some past posts from the old forum.

Back in the 1990s, maybe even in the 1980s, Honda starting importing to the US a full line of outdoor power equipment, including tractors, mowers, snow blowers and so did Yamaha. Good machines, but expensive compared to the rest of the marketplace. Honda still sells generators and snowblowers, but stopped selling the rest. Yamaha pretty much got out all together by the late 1990s. Honda tractor parts are hard to find, Yamaha parts are even harder to find. Neither company supports these old machines very well.

i service a yamaha snowblower every year for a guy and its the exact same as the auction one.
absolutley the best snowblower i have ever had anything to do with.all i ever do is change oil and look at everything else.
never had to replace a belt or anything.
you shift on the fly from gear to gear and for 6 horsepower it will outperform any 10 i have worked on including a snapper ariens or even the HONDA.
i dont know why they work so good but they do.
i did check for parts once at a 4 wheeler dealer ,at first he said he couldnt get anything but i gave him part numbers for belts and cables and he checked again and said no problem.
so as long as you didnt need some thing like sheetmetal ar a tranny you should be okay.

I would guess your intuition is right.
I'm sure those in the know will chime in....

You can't go wrong. If you are concerned about parts, you can turn it around and put it on Ebay and you'll still make out in the plus.

Geno I would jump at it if you have the money.

GRAB IT! BUT - I would SELL the Yamaha & keep your other machine. You should be able to get a NICE price for it! If the Yamaha breaks during a storm, parts WILL probably prove difficult to find on short notice. Then you're stuck. Just my opinion...

I took the advice..It was batting 100%, and you folks know the buisness so I bought it. It came from Denver, so very little rust. the bottom edge needs attention as the wear bar was gone and wore edge a little. other than that looks almost new. It is a 6hp. (624). thanks again- stay safe- God bless you all this Christmas season. Gene

Cool beans! So when will we see it on Ebay?

Mrmom..I wouldn't put it on e-bay..I'd offer it here first. Making people happy is more rewarding than making money anyday and I know people here love there OPE. But I plan on keeping it. Unless of course it really becomes a nightmare. But Snowshoveler gave it a pretty good review. I rid my garage yesterday of 3 blower projects (simplicity/ lawnboy/ bobcat) to make room for it. really hated to dump the bobcat..but needed too much work. I'm in my 50's and realizing it isn't fun laying on the floor wrenching on rusty bolts anymore. (can't believe I said that). But my Wife would disagree with that. Geno

Congrats on the purchase!!
That's insane that you got that machine for such a good price.
That 6/24 is an amazing machine. One of my neighbours has one and it blows like crazy. Very quiet and powerful for such a small machine. He can blow snow easily as far as my 13/33 with impeller kit. Maybe farther sometimes.
Great find.
Remember about finding parts though.

can anyone explain the impeller kit and what it does? are they universal, as most likely won't find one for Yamaha blower. thanks again Gene

Trust me, you won't need one for that machine. It has a very close tolerance like the Honda machines. You CAN add one, but would likely see only the smallest of improvement, if you could actually tell though.
Basically, they add a piece of rubber that closes the gap between the impeller blade and the housing. Essentially, everything that goes in.......comes out!! Brings efficiency up to 100%. When there is a gap between the impeller blade and its housing, there is loss of efficiency as the impeller blades have to keep processing the material over and over to remove it from the housing. This is all about physics, and is true for ALL impellers, regardless of use.
 Some of the newest machines out there have gaps of as much as 1" Take a look sometime at machines in the showrooms.
Like some other things in life........tighter is better................ :whistling:

thanks on input. Glad I made purchase. I'll leave well enough alone on machine. forgot to mention- the machine has not been started for 2 years or so..but does have compression. gas tank bone dry but no rust (thank goodness). I bought it in non-running condition. Appears it will run though. Geno
