Looking at a model 5199 (J5K) carb (emissions style), says it fits
8-10 HP Tecumsehs.
Will this fit an HMSK80 engine? I dont have the exact specs (serial, build) on my engine handy, I can get them later. Ive also asked if there are any more markings on the carb itself, havent received an answer.
Thanks!

the numbers you posted arent tecumseh numbers -there off the carb tecumseh number will be a mix of 6 digits perhaps having a 7th as a letter.but it dosent matter.
basically if the carb came of an ohv engine from 9 to 12 horsepower it will fit any engine in there.
if its from an L head engine from 8 to 11 horsepower then it fits those.
any questions.
so in a word yes it will fit.
only bad part is its unadjustable.
if you need to tweak it a bit we can talk.

I actually dont need it to be adjustable :)
The current carb on my HM80 is acting funky, Ive rebuilt and cleaned it several times, but I still get a hunting no-load/high speed. Idle is fine, and it actually runs OK at high speed with the auger engaged and throwing snow, but it gets a little finicky occasionally and starts to sputter and die.
I just wanted to try a replacement carb to see if it helps any, and Ive found that carb pretty cheap....might give it a shot.

could be a little problem with the low speed metering.
since the engine actually used the low speed circuit for most work until it needs the xtra fuel from the high speed circuit.
thats why it works pretty good when IN THE CUT.

I kinda figured it was somethign with the low speed circuit, but Ive had the thing off and cleaned so many times, I still cant believe the issue exists. The *only* thing I havent done was replace the gasket where the carb screws onto the intake manifold. Ive inspected the gasket and it looked fine, and the engine didnt change RPMs when spraying the gasket area with WD40. Plus the fact that it seems to run better when actually throwing snow kinda makes me figure its not an air leak.
BTW, this is the carb I was asking about:

It says for 8-10HP, so Im guessing its not an OHV carb. But it looks a little different than the one I have now (note the primer spud and fuel inlet spud are near each other......on my current carb they are opposite, also the choke setup is manual, whereas mine has linkage for a remote choke control). I dont know if that helps any, it surely doesnt help me (I cant figure out if it will fit). The actual carb for the engine is fairly expensive (maybe because its snowing? :) ), I didnt want to spend the 80 or so if I didnt have to.
