:) Got a late 60s vintage 7hp 26" for the princely sum of $20. Was told it had the engine replaced at some point--though it looks original. The auger belt was broken. Changed the oil, greased the machine, etc. Got new OEM belts. I had no trouble putting on the auger belt. Tried to get the drive belt off, but couldn't figure out how to remove the guard from the pulley closest to the transmission. Any ideas without removing everything?
:?: Right now the auger spins, even when not engaged. When engaged it spins faster. The lever to engage the machine to go forward/reverse does nothing to start or stop--as soon as it is in gear it wants to go, and can only be stopped by putting it into neutral. Is this because the belts are too tight? I couldn't find any slack adjusters, so does this mean I have to get longers belts?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

there should be a set of belt fingers that are on the engine for drive pulley.
with the belt engaged these fingers need to be about 1/8 to 1/4 inch from the belt.
they can be wire arms or pieces of flat bar.

If its anything like my old Hahn eclipse, you have clutch just like a car. Put it in, doesn't move, change to first gear, let the clutch go, and it goes, put the clutch in, change to neutral, release clutch, it should stay still...them old blowers were function first....safety distant second :P

your machine looks like this?

for auger you need 4L 39" long for transmission 3L 61" long.
Transmission belt will be twisted and crossover when installed looks like 8.
for auger # 27, 28 and 29 will make adjustment on rod #33
transmission belt adjustment : numbers 18 and 19 will make cables 17 and 20 connection longer or shorter
BTW you can download PDF file with operation Manual from Simplicity web site
