Which UPS IS Right For You?
Every winter season you end up getting surges, spikes, and blackouts. To keep your computer protected while giving you time to shutdown your computer, your going to need a UPS. There are many UPS's out there and depending on what kind of machine you have and what size of monitor you have, will determine which UPS is best for you! When choosing a UPS system it is a good idea to also plan ahead to cater for expansion so that your investment in a UPS does not outgrow your future needs.
I keep seeing the words, WATTS and VA on a UPS, what does it all mean?
The abbreviation "VA" is short for volts & amps. You take your volts x your amps and you come out with your UPS's watt capacity. The more watts your machine pulls out, the more watts your UPS needs to put out.
How Do I Know How Many WATTS My Machine Pulls Out?
There should be a label on the back or inside your machine which states how many watts it uses. For example, if your machine pulls out 400 watts, then you would need at least a 750VA UPS. Because you do not want to damage the UPS by a 100% load all the time, you want a UPS that has a bit higher capacity.
Types Of VA Ratings Seen On UPS Backup Units
350VA = 200 Watt
500VA = 350 Watt
800VA = 480 Watt
1100VA = 700 Watt
1500VA = 1000 Watt
2200VA = 1500 Watt

ah I just turn all the breaker except for the stove and sump pump, then when power returns I flip the breakers on and am ready to go :) Other than that I just have some surge protectors on the cables to all my electronic gadgetry.

Ashley's the bird behind Alta?

Termy,
I hope Ashley isn't the type with a plastic personality, who only amounts to something when you inflate her ego. Those kind will flat out leave you, and in time you'll become tired of patching up your relationship wih her. :wink:

Oh, you two are silly! :lol:
Ashley is a very nice girl, I have spoken about her before on the forum. She has been my girlfriend for a while. Marshall, thats right, Termy's getting some this christmas!
Oh Ya... :D
Date: 5 Dec 2006 1:22 pm
And here all along I thought Ashley was Alta's older sister. Oops! My bad.
Good thing you pointed it out Termy.

Here goes...
Termy,
We can say that one of your xmas presents will be in a box.
I wonder how nice she'd be if she read your post... might be able to multiply what you are going to get by a huge factor: "0000.00"

Ashley is 23 years old. She has blond hair and blue eyes! Yes, she uses computers but she does not know near as much as I do about them. She lives 40 miles away from me so I only get to see her once or twice a week. She drives a 1990 Toyota Corrola and she seems to like it. She is really cute and sweet. This Christmas is going to be beautiful! :D
Marshall, she loves scooters! She said she used to own one of those retro models and it was used. She said it lasted her a good 5 years then the thing just would not run no more, she could not maintain it. So she sold it, but she loves my scooter! :D
Marshall, I make the UPS thread every year because I don't want people to loose their machines to black/brown outs or at the very least, loose all the work they were just working on. Its important to me to help out those who don't have a UPS. There are people buying brand new computers every year, and I hear about them getting toast all the time because they did not hook a ups to their system. :(

In other words Termy, how about getting her one of Sherri's handpainted loveable, huggable ornaments as one of her christmas presents? :wink:

Termy,
That's great that you have found someone who is kind, caring, and fun.
So are we going to see a picture or what? (Nothing dirty, we don't need to see the "Mrs. Santa" outfit, the french maid getup, or any of that; just a "regular everyday picture" would be great.) (even if you post it for a week or something)
I'm going to be good and not even mention the "does she have teeth" jokes.
I'm really happy for you.
Walt

Thanks for your comments Walt! We have a great relationship and I think its going to go for the long term! :D Ashley and I were playing Twisted Metal II together and I was woopen her but! LMAO :lol: So she got me on GTA and she handed over my a** LMAO :lol:
Nope, she does not want her picture taken, much less a picture going on the net for all to see. I have a great thing going on hear, I don't want to force the issue with her. :ng:

Marshall, I just looked over Tripp Lite's site and I have to say that they are first class! :vg: I am really impressed with their product line and how well their website is constructed! They have an option on there to select everything you have and it will determine which unit is best for you! :wink: I just might end up buying a couple surge supressors from them and at least one UPS!
Marshall, do you have any Tripp Lite products in your home? :D

I have five or six surge suppressors of theirs. I use to sell their UPS's in Networks I designed and sold, mainly for the server(s) and key nodes. They make a good product for an attractive price.

Don't forget APC, either.

They're still the innovator when it comes to power protection.
