Is anyone else finding that the site is slower then normal today? It's like I hit a brick wall trying to move around in here.

seems to be ok for me..no better no worse than usual.
It did seem a little slow either yesterday or last night.......don't remember which.

I've tried everything I could here and this site is still acting like it's in a deep freeze or stuck in molasses on a cold day. Every other site I've gone to seems normal. But then again what is normal now a days?

Sorry to hear that Sherri,it works fine for me...

Well I’ve played 2 games of Free Cell and looked after 2 customers and 2 phone calls just waiting to get this page open to read what was added, then another minute to get to this page so I could reply. I must be going nuts - or at least the computer must be going nuts.

Have you tried a reboot?
Date: 27 Mar 2006 4:11 pm
I've been on and off of it today and haven't hit a slow period.
Even though you have other sites that are working fine, it maybe one connection you need to get down to the servers in PA that is slow.
Just incase, when I see no one is on, I'll do a back up.
If you ever want to test your connection.
Go to Start.
Click on Run
Type in cmd
Now in the window at the command line prompt type in:
tracert www.opeonthenet.com
(ignore the underline, I can't get the forum to stop making a link out of it)
It will log every step of the way between your computer and the server in PA. Most should be between 5ms and 100ms. Each step causes a bit of delay , get one bad one and it seems the whole thing just dies.
The connection from your PC to the server is like going down a road with a row of lights, if you just keep missing them or one hangs, your not going anywhere fast.

I'll have to give that a try tomorrow. I'm home now and the site is as zippy as ever. *sigh*

We're running off a cable modem at work. It hasn't been that slow in a long time. I almost couldn't believe it.

That's pretty cool. I tested the home computer and it hopped 15 times with 9 - 58 ms being the standard.

Ah, leads me to thing there maybe an initial node you have to go through that's choking.
Try it at home.
This way you can see if any part of the route is any different.
(to print it you'll have to right key click over it, and select "select all".
Then hold down the Crtl key and press the C key.
(Ctrl-C copy short cut).
Open up NotePad and do a Ctrl-V (Past short cut).
Then you can print it.

That a good run.
Mine changes from 9 - 12 hops depending on the time of day
anywhere form 7 - 41ms for a hop.
The local hops are 6-9ms, the last 2 or 3 run 40ms each or so.
Date: 27 Mar 2006 4:49 pm
Got 11 hops with 132ms

Yeah its good, when i started to play on US servers some years ago i was on modem 56k and i got ping like 350-400+ and that sucked, then came V90 standard for modems and it lowerd my ping a bit.
But the big change came with ADSL,first i got 0,5Mbit and now i have 12Mbit... :D

A simpler test to check it out, and it has less overhead, so the results look better..
Start
Run
type in cmd
type in at the command line:
ping www.opeonthenet.com
it just sends on little packet out and see how long it takes to get there and back. Doesn't log anything.
the tracert command lets you see where the problem may lay.

I could never go back to dial up.
My DSL was good, but dropped me a lot, just like dialup.
Once I could get cable , I went with cable.
No dropped sessions.
Every soo often, once every few months I have to reboot the cable modem. It appears to just lock up.
Date: 27 Mar 2006 5:07 pm
Lowest 129 and higest 131
Date: 27 Mar 2006 5:10 pm
With the ping , I avg 40ms total.
But I'm just up the coast from it.
Funny part is I see now , this week , I'm going through Virgina before I wind up in the server in PA.
A little overshoot down south and back up again.

I tried the ping thing, but it went so fast that I didn't even get to see the screen. :?

I think you missed a step.
need to type
cmd
into the run box first.
then in window that comes up type in the
ping www.opeonthenet.com
if you type the ping line into the run box, yea, you'll never see it !
Date: 27 Mar 2006 5:21 pm
That would explain a lot - I just thought you guys could read extra fast! I averaged 53ms at home.
Sherri
Date: 27 Mar 2006 5:37 pm
LOL, yea the image of the test burned in to my retina so I could read it.
Date: 28 Mar 2006 6:35 am
I ran the trace this morning and it took 15 hops. The first 5 ran about 8 - 9ms and the last ten about 37 - 57ms. On the ping test 52 is the average. So this is about the same as I saw last night.

Sorry Sherri, been on the road all day.
That was from work?
Is work moving along ok today?
Date: 29 Mar 2006 5:23 am
Yes that was from work and it was back to it's normal self yesterday.
Sherri
Date: 29 Mar 2006 10:01 am
Good.
well , just remember the two tests for next time.
Date: 29 Mar 2006 10:29 am
 Me remember something? I'll have to write anote to remind me and then a note to remind me where I put the note and a note...
Sherri
Date: 29 Mar 2006 10:57 am
heheh, I gotcha.
write this down...
Start
Run
type in cmd
type in
tracert www.opeonthenet.com
or
ping www.opeonthenet.com
tracert is a bit more complete and accurate I believe.
Thats should be enough of a basic outline to remind you of the steps.
This way we can see, when you get a slow down, and no one else is experiencing it, if it's in the chain somewhere as you are getting to the server.
