I have a Snow Fox which I picked up a while ago. It gets higher ratings than the Toro on Amazon. I like it for what I use it for, to clear our large deck. The Snow Fox can be adjusted to blow snow to either side or the front, the Toro is stationary. I still use the shovel for the front walkway though, our is very long, multiple levels, it's just easier to shovel.
Pros:
- I can clean the deck with ease. It throws the snow over the railing or between the rungs when you get up close. No more lifting the shovel over the deck railing.
- Lightweight, although heavier than the Toro.
- Does not mess up the stained finish on my deck like a shovel.
- Does shoot snow and quite well. Best distance is achieved when shooting straight out in front, but does very well at angles as well. Does as described, can easily throw snow 25 feet. Big thing is that it can throw it high as well which allows it to throw over the railings as noted before.
Cons:
- Will not clean the deck like a shovel, but gets it done fine enough for me. If the snow is light, I may go over it afterwards with a broom to get a finish good enough for hubby.
- The darn electrical cord is a pain. You do need to tie it in a loop on the handle or you will lose your connection.
- Second pain about dealing with an electrical cord in the snow is that it freezes up. You MUST uncoil the cord immediately upon getting outdoors or be battling with a frozen coiled pain in the neck that you will curse heavily at.
- Cost. A shovel is definately cheaper! Retails at 150 but can be found for cheaper if you try hard enough. However, compared to the 100 the Toro runs for, you get more bang for the buck because you can adjust where the snow goes.
For the cost, it's a decent addition to our snow removal tools. Does the job I want it to do which is to clear the deck easily with as little damage as possible. I have a large deck that runs most of the length of my house and has 2 levels. I can clean it without much effort, other than screwing around with that darn cord.
Would I use this as my choice of snow removal tool - no way! Pull out the Simplicity for the big job.
