I bought the Snapper 21 inch Hi Vac, Briggs 6.75HP OHV, Self-propelled walk behind mower in the spring of 2002 to replace a 15+ year old Toro. I obviously got great service out of the Toro but was looking to try something different.
I initially wasn't all that impressed with the mowing qualities of it. I had to be sure and overlap the wheel tracks or I would end up with strips of unmowed, bent over grass. The Toro didn't have this problem. Build quality is very good, it is very solid and has a quality feel about it. The Briggs is easy to start but doesn't seem any more powerful than the 5HP OHV Suzuki that the Toro had. I added the front caster wheels and a Ninja blade to it and am very happy with the performance of these two options. I had MANY trees at the time and the caster wheels as well as the differential make mowing around objects easier.
The self propel lever took a little getting used to and I probably still prefer the ergonomics of the Toro. I also miss the BBC that I had on my Toro, very nice to have when bagging leaves and having to stop so many times to empty the bag.
The steel deck is noisier than the alum deck on the old Toro, not a big deal, but if you hit a stick or a black walnut you will notice.
The bagging capabilities are very impressive and with the Ninja blade it does an excellent job of mulching.
I developed a gas tank leak in the second season which was replaced under warranty at N/C.
I paid $500 at a local dealer.
I would rate it 4/5 stars and would either repurchase it or another Toro.
