I notice every time I walk past my snowblower that is covered with a snowblower cover, it smells like gas. Removed the cover today and the gas smell was strong. A. I may have a gas leak or B. fumes from the carb collecting under the cover. One lit match or flame of some sort and I am sure it would light up. Going to check for a small leak tomorrow as I am not comfortable with this situation. Anyone experiencing the same?

Most gas tanks are vented to prevent overpressure conditions. A cover can also hold extra warmth in from the sun or engine heat., causing more fuel eveporation. Plus the normal carb evaporation.

Its normall, but dangereouse if exxxesive or a ignition source is found. Id shut off the fuel valve, and a thourough leak cheak.

Plastic tanks have been know to develope leaks. There's been a ton of recalls over the years for that very issue. Might check your tank too just to be safe.

You should not get a heavy gas smell from putting a cover over your machine. Something else is wrong. Take a look at it. - Kris :D

Sears is coming out tomorrow to check a gas leak, noticed a smell a couple of weeks ago and a gas spot on the floor.

They were out last winter and cleaned the carb, and when he put it back on it started leaking and he had to replace a gasket.
I'm also going to have him check into why it won't shut off when I turn the throttle off, now I have to take the key out in order for it to stop running.
