Just a thought on gifts...from a probably atypical (p.c. of abby normal) female so take it with a grain (or bag) of salt. Someone (can't remember who) had mentioned that its good to tell you guys what the SO wants for Christmas and, while I don't see anything wrong with that, especially if there is something specific the SO wants, I think its also neat to buy a 'surprise' for the SO. Doesn't have to be anything big or expensive, just something that says you are paying attention...and detail is important here. For example, if you know your SO collects something, made by specific manufacturer (e.g. a knick knack of some sort), try and figure out which one she has been drooling over or wanting that she won't buy for herself. From a woman's point of view, it means a whole lot to know when your loved one really does pay attention, much more than the gift itself!

My unsolicited $.02 for what its worth.

Ok, this probably will not make sense to anyone but Marty but here goes. Money is tight this year due to my final year of school but I couldn't pass up a Dynascan built 1995 Cobra 146 GTL AM/SSB radio. SP-1 speach prossesor and a 10K slider intalled when new, switches on the rear panel, 40 up and down switch intalled on the right side and a unlocked clarifyer. With box, original paprerwork, receipts, owners manual, and channel guide. It ran close to $300 dollars with the work when it was new, I picked it up for $100 shipped to my door from Maryland from a Police Officer down there I know through one of the radio forums. When it came out of the box I almost fell over as it looks brand new. I tested it and she works great and is back in the box and waiting for me on Christmas morning.... 8)

I got myself a set of electronic drums (see other post about those), so that's the big ticket item for me.
I got my wife a treadmill yesterday. See the IPE post elsewhere for details on that.
I'd already put new tires on her car.
I'm awaiting her list of songs that I will buy at iTunes, and burn to CD for her commuting enjoyment.
I will probably go out tomorrow and get her a little something that isnt utilitarian. Something for her to unwrap.
My son wants a saxophone. Sharper Image sells one you work like a kazoo and it changes the sound to a sax sound, so maybe I'll get him that.
He'll be 4 in February. He's got more toys than he knows what to do with. Every day is Christmas for that boy. We can't help ourselves. He's so good.

I know what you mean. I use to unlook the pll's and install sliders and crystal boxes for side money. I've went straight after I got my different tickets. Still have two of them a GMRS and a tech AROL(HAM), and had a general class 2 (no longer exists). I took my 3, 2 and 1 in the same day, missed the 1 by one stinking question that day, was in a rush not to miss by buss ride out of the city. Swipped through all 3 in one sitting. Passed one, I went back in and took the next, I almost didnt take the class 1, they said I'd never make it, too little time, I rushed it. Finished it intime to have it checked but got one too many wrong, made like 3 stupid mistakes on the test. Since I never got a job that needed it, I never went back for the class 1 . I don't tinker with RF any more, but keep renewing what I can.

I'm getting a Sirius radio, well got it to tell the truth
With all the rf interference from different things in my office, I can't get any good FM stations or any AM.. I only get two FM stations, old fuddy duddy and one I can't stand( The LIers on the forum will know the two, WBLI and WalkFM). Can only take soo much of either one of them.

Mrs ramit wanted a few cd's and stocking stuffers.
Daugther wanted cd's, a new telephone, photo printer (she's a photographer so not getting away with a $100 printer here), and clothes.

With the purchase of the Toro, we're taking it easy on the parental unit gifts.. the kid's budget remains untouched.

It's amazing to watch their eyes.. they get so overwhelmed.
After they grow up, it just aint the same.
They start snopping for the stuff, we gotta use steal lock boxes to store and lock the stuff in to stop the snopping.

About the hot watter tank statement...

I of all people should know what it means to have hot watter. I am not sure if anyone in the forum is aware of this but, we spent most of the year 2005 without a hotwatter tank! The tank was 15 years old and the vesel cracked and watter was gushing out of it. Money was tight for a long time so we could not afford to buy a new one at that time. So, in order to have hot watter for showers, we would heat up the watter on the stove and then cool it down a bit with cold watter and then put into watter buckets which we hanged from the celing. Washing dishes was equaly a chore, we would have to heatup the watter same way. Basically, our standard of living was that of the 19th centry for about a year. We had never gone through anything like that in our lifetime so we had to really adjust to the change! Well, John was in the Navy so mabye he went through something like that once, but I never did so it was tough.

Then what happened was a miracle from God. Our brother in law bought us a hott watter tank 50 gallen and we installed it ourselves. Because the tank was larger than normal sise tanks for mobile homes, we had to pull a magyver in order to get it in that little room. I tell you though, it sure was nice to have a hot watter tank again!

Perhaps giving her several of those wallets she is fond of, without making her fish them out of the snowblower while its running, would do the trick?

Mrs "IPE" Marty is getting a Dooney & Bourke purse, two gold chains for her pendants, a Affinity Diamond bracelet, a fancy winter coat, & lots of small stuff. Most items I ordered from QVC - I didn't even have to leave the house! She's GREAT to me so I have to take GREAT care of her. Besides, the OPE was VERY good to me this year $$$.

I asked Santa for a 20 ton hydraulic press, a small heater for my shed (its darned cold out there workng on snowblowers!) and a dozen pair of Mechanix gloves (I'm real hard on them).

Bill - I asked for a small 3k BTU Coleman Catalytic type heater. Its a good choice because it has no flame, which makes it safe to use in the shed with all the fuel fumes. The only problem is that it is small - but its better than nothing (I guess?)

Good idea's from Paula. I've learned a few things myself after 30 years. If your wife tells you not to exchange presents with her (for whatever reason), DON'T BELIEVE IT! She will get you something, and then she will be very hurt if you didn't get something for her. Also, women love jewlery. Don't get her something that plugs in. Just think of what you would like, and get her the opposite. Just my 2 cents on 30 years of experience. I am getting better at this :?:

Krislu here turned me on to those Empire Direct vent heaters, they do make a smalll one a dv210 that I know a source you can get for about 300 delivered. would heat the whole shed for ya, full time, set it and forget it type.

Well, I'm lucky.......my wife does not really like jewelery too much.
Our oldest son just got married two weeks ago, and wedding planning seemed to overshadow Christmas preparation.

I'm not expecting anything big......I guess I'm too picky about the things I want...I research them to death and then hunt for the best deal and then buy myself...makes it hard to others to buy for me.

I got my wife some clothes, etc......(jeez, what makes cashmire so expensive??.....it just feels like soft sweater stuff..??.....)

Kept Christmas presents light this year.....Taking the wife on a cruise in the next month or two will be an expense......perhaps a new computer or two this next year....(when the intel macs come out....)....and I find myself thinking about a newer vehicle or two.....perhaps a newer truck.....I currently drive a rust free 1990 F150 with only 48,000 miles.

My next project for this winter will be kinda a present to the family...because I installed in floor radiant heat when I built the house, I never installed whole house air conditioning. After last summer it became evident that it would be nice to have, and if I sell down the road it would be expected by the new buyers, so that is our Christmas present and next project.

Merry Christmas to all......and also happy Boxing day to our friends up north!

We are only about 40 miles from the border....there is a really nice place close to Niagara Falls called Niagara-on-the-Lake.......very quaint....anyway, I've taken my wife up there years back on Dec 27th and found some great "Day after Boxing day" sales.......

Anyway, again, Happy Boxing Day to all of our good Canadian friends!!

Basically you can't have one unless it is approved by the association and they only approve TV antennas. I have heard that the association has even balked at the small satalite dishes but will give in. There are stealth antenna options but they get expensive quick.
Funny thing is I am more concerned about it looking good then they are.
