Hope this doesn't cross the line or cause any disputes but I'd love to hear songs you consider inspirational.
What made me think of this is a song I heard by Brooks & Dunn in the car over the last few days/weeks called "Believe" and it just gives me chills. Neat song.
Another song that I love is Amazing Grace...heard it played on a Navajo flute once...made me bawl like a baby.

"Hurt"......Johnny Cash.

Paula,
how could you liking inspirational music be crossing the line or cause disputes....?
Everyone has their own taste in music, and I respect that. Being an avid follower of christian/gospel/inspirational music for over 30 years, I share the same taste as you.
Many people do not know that for every genre of music, there is a christian counterpart. There is christian country, christian lounge, christian jazz, christian blues.....even christian acid rock!
Also, people would be suprised to know that contempary christian music is the fastest growing segment in the music business today.
My favorite type of christian music is contempary praise and worship. I'm also old enough to love the old hymns too. I also like what I call "Classic praise & worship from the 70's and 80's....back from the "Jesus movement" days....
I have well over 1000 Christian songs in my itunes alone....
My favorite song this time of year is "Mary, did you know". There are many artists who have done it, but one of the best is done by
Kathy Mattea........

That is a great album lint. Lone Rider and the first one are real good. NIN version is nowhere near as good as JC's.
My Aunt plays Amazing Grace on the flute at family funerals. When she is done you have nothing left for a while.

Anything by Zep(especially off of 4 or In through the Outdoor), or Floyd. Like Steely Dan to when I'm feelin a lil more mellow.

Paula and lint,
Thank you. I took a shower and laid on the kids bed with nothing but the aquarium lighting the room. Put on the Johnny Cash CD with the favorites picked. Listened to a couple of songs, but my wife sitting in the rocking chair singing with JC on Bridge Over Troubled Water was very soothing and provided some very welcome healing. My favorites on that album end with Danny Boy.
Course the next in the shuffle is Korn's version of Another Brick in the Wall, that sort of broke the mood.

Frank
I just didn't want to start anything regarding religion, etc, especially this time of year.
I love a lot of different kinds of music...have even been finding myself really enjoying orchestra music since my younger daughter took up violin. Listening to the high school kids play Phantom of the Opera was incredible. My older daughter is in choir...and listening to them sing is incredible.
To me the inspiration comes in many forms...not necessarily christian but always in something that moves me in some way....whether its tears, chills, laughter...and thats what I call inspirational music, music that touches me in some way.

Chris hates it, but I love it - Nature. I have various Cd's of nature, the waves crashing, the thunder rolling, crickets chirping all with various music in the background. My favorite on there would be the haunting sounds of Amazing Grace. (The said thing about Amazing Grace is when I start humming it out of the blue I get scared, it has been my experience that a bad phone call is in the not so distant future  ) But then on the other hand give me a little AC DC, G 'N R, Metalica, then go country, or even some of the new stuff that I just don't know how to class. I like a little bit of everything I guess.

You had the right plan Rob.
My Christmas music nerve has been rubbed raw over the past month. :x
When Paula mentioned music....I felt an uncontrollable urge too listen too the stuff that really feeds my soul and kicks me right square in the chest.
If I hear "Jingle Bell Rock" one more time...I just may climb up on the roof and start emptying the chamber on the neighborhood inflatable Santas, Snowmen and Candycanes that over-populate the hood.
I just feels good too be semi-depressed again. :D

Vivaldi and Baroque.
I like the organs in some of the baroque. Since I became Orthodox there is no more organ music in church. Choir music only. It's beautiful in it's own right...but I miss a church organ every now and then.

I don't know why, but somehow I had missed that he had died out at Alpine! Reading some of ths stories about his last concert and his decision to leave that night gave me chills. He definitely had a gift.
