Just curious in the main differances between the two engines since its official that my Ariens will come with a 9.5 HP B & S Powerbuilt when it arrives in January.
The Briggs site doesn't really give to much information on the differances and doesn't show a 9.5 HP, only an 8hp/10hp and 11hp with a bunch of smaller ones. I'm guessing its a either 8HP labeled up since theres no air cleaner on the snow version or a down labeled 10hp. Other than that I can only see displacement is differant.
Was curious on your opinions of the Powerbuilt.

Egreen,
20 cubes, OHV, 4 qt tank, aluminum cylinder, fixed throttle, 1.5 amp 12V DC unregulated alternator, 3 year warranty. This is the same engine as the Intek, just trimmed down features with an aluminum sleeve.
In comparison to the LH318SA Tecumseh L-head, you're losing out on the adjustable throttle and cast iron sleeve. The tradeoff is OHV, less fuel consumption, less noise, more power. An good trade for sure. The CI sleeve is not too advantageous on a snow engine, and the adjustable throttle loss is not a big deal for most.
Although the Tecumseh is a very good engine on this machine, the Briggs is definitely the better of the two. The Briggs also comes with a special fuel cap that meters fuel stabilizer into the gas.

Hmm no throttle control, thats like a 2 cycle in a way. Doesn't bother me too much but I like to turn it to idle when I'm talking with someone or clearing some sticks out of the way or going from driveway to sidewalk.
12HP certainly makes up for no throttle. Thats going to be a beastly machine if indeed its that engine. No worring about EOD. Now I don't feel as bad about haveing to retire my Hahn Eclipse. From the sound of this, is it a special made Power Built engine just for Ariens?

It sounds to me like the Powerbilt Snow's of a certian size are all the same. Some might be like an Intek with the cast iron bore. But the Intek has some different shrouding and a throttle control. Otherwise it sounds just like the Intek. I'm just reading between the lines though.
Now the Powerbilt I found on Briggs' site are not Powerbilt Snows.

guess I'll just have to see what its like when it arrives. Maybe it will arrive on my birthday :P My birthday is the 19th of January so if it arrives on or before that I'll be happy and hope for some big febuary storms. Sounds like I'll be happy with it, well my my father will be too, he is the one buying it I just advise him.
