Just picked up a 95-ish Craftsman 10hp 28" cut snowblower for cheaps and I am trying to figure out what kind of engine I have, i.e. Tecumseh / Briggs & Stratton.

The Model Number is C950-XXXXXX and I can't quite pick out the numbers after "C950" although I am working on it.

I looked on http://www.owwm.com/Craftsman/Manufacturers-Prefix.asp to see if I could determine the manufacturer, but no luck.

Any ideas?

I bought a used Track Craftsman 1992, my model # is C-459-52130, and I cannot find who made it. Since it's on topic anyone know?

Jack,

I'd give you 10 to 1 it's a Tecumseh engine!!

Briggs just started to get into the Snow engines just recently!!

Right on boys, that's her, I definitely have a Tecumseh! I used to know these blowers pretty good back in the day, but about 15yrs ago my old man picked up a Yamaha YS-828 and I have to say that we became Yama-mites and concentrated on that brand only.

I am going to try and adjust the carb on my newly-acquired Craftsman since it seems like the engine is "racing" a lot. Auger belt is also a tad too tight since the auger spins fairly quickly when the unit is just idling... very dangerous to people and to my snow-covered equipment!

Thanks for the ID help fellas.

Weird, according to this site: http://www.owwm.com/Craftsman/Manufacturers-Prefix.asp

The suffix "459" refers to "Technics", who is an electronics manufacturer. I appear to be in the misfit category as well since "950" refers to "Laser (V-tech)"... bizarre.

I will have a closer look to see what the rest of the Model # is shortly.
