http://www.opeonthenet.com/forum_archives.htm
A search engine for the archives is up and running.
To search the archives, one would use that page that the above link would bring you to.
This is also found off of the Home Page Menu:
"Forum Archives & SEARCH".
Again, this only searches the webpages and the archives, not the active forum. Since we haven't pruned any old posts yet, you will find the same thread on both the archives and the active forum.
To search the Active/Live forum, one would use the Search option on the live forum, at the top of each page of the Forum.
Happy Holidays,
The Mods and Admins...

EDITPosted: 21 Dec 2005 11:10 am est
A possibility just occurred to me this morning....
If you are still having to login twice, or it happens once in a while,
I would guess it maybe because you are using a bookmark made from the temporary link given out on the day we moved, that was the IP address... "http://64.130.14.114/" .
Please delete that bookmark, type in or click on this link..
http://www.opeonthenet.com/
Bookmark that.
After you log in you can always just bookmark the forum index page if you would like. But going in through the home page gives us noticeable traffic, which is a good thing.
All things are now supposed to be relative to the domain name..
opeonthenet.com , not the IP address. Last night, all behind the scenes setting were changed from the IP address to the domain name, since the domain name finally caught up to us.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT:Posted: 20 Dec 2005 07:41 pm est
At this point try this..
logout, clear your cookies, clear your cash.
Start at the home page.
Click on the link to come here.
You should see your address bar saying..
http://www.opeonthenet.com/phpBB2/...
Now login.
You should now STILL see..
http://www.opeonthenet.com/phpBB2...
Instead of the IP address like last night.
The double logins should be gone.
What was happing was that when you came in through the front page, which you got to by the domain name. When you got to the forum via the front page, the domain name was still in the address bar, but when you are granted access to the forum ( logged in), the forum WAS untill now, setup withe IP address. If it was setup with the domain name say last night, for those who's ISP didn't have the DNS change yet, they would not have gotten into the forum.
But I'm sure by now all are getting here via the domain name, from what can tell, so I'm going through it all and changing the settings over to use the domain name instead of the IP address.
You shouldn't have the login in twice issue any more.
I saw it too, when I came by the domain name, via the front page.
Sorry for the little inconvience, but I couldn't avoid it. It was the only way to keep complete access.

Well if your reading this you know that our temporary link is:
http://64.130.14.114/
Actually that's our real IP address and will always work.
As soon as the DNS updates work, www.opeonthenet.com will bring you here, and not the old forum.
Probably no later than Tuesday 12/20/05, www.opeonthenet.com should be bringing you to the home page.
As of now beside some of the behind the scenes items that make it better... you can now:
Upload avatars !
It works.
They must be smaller than 15Kb in size, and 250p W x 300p H.
That's pretty big for an avatar. Again at worst, if you need help, member "ramit" has been helping with the avatars, PM him.
Browse and select from Avatar Galleries !
We've preloaded some in there already.
It works. If you want to donate something for the Avatar gallery, please PM member "ramit", again he's been helping with the avatars.
We tried to capture present avatars, and loaded them in a Gallery marked "X-Reserved". The last gallery (the only reason the X is there).
But all your settings should still be the same and your linked avatar should still be working.
Please post any questions about the move below.
Eventually this particular forum about the move will be deleted, once we are all settled in.
Happy Holidays,

Thanks Bob, this is great. I love the home page. In the links I see Ariens is first all the time and Toro is last. First it's MTD now it's the darn alphabet screwing up Toro, what's next.
It all looks terriffic Bob, thanks. More than you realize, thanks. It's nice to have a place we have confidence in to hang. We could have problems anywhere, no place is perfect, maybe it is just me, but at the other place when I clicked the link to the forum in my bookmarks I always wondered what was going to happen. Now for some strange reason that doubt is not crossing my mind.
Kind of neat thinking of something messing up as a suprise rather than expecting it.

Ahhh...... musical chairs yet once again.
Let me settle in on this nice comfy couch and put my feet up. Nice bowl of popcorn on my lap..... cold beer on the side table....
Is the pizza here yet?

 Thanks all and thanks Rob
I just wanted to help the Mods that have put soo much into making the board the home that it is... And all the great info from all the experienced talent that contribute to the board.
Everyone was soo frustrated after the loss of all the past info, from all the moves. We couldn't let that happen with this move. We are also working on an Archiving program. No promises, but we are working on it.
The board is now on it's very own account on a professionally maintained server in a professional data center, part of this data center is THE email hub for central part of the east coast. No small operation.
As Rob said, stuff can always happen.
But there's no being pushed around anymore.
As far as Ariens and Toro, sorry Rob, but as much as I'm a Toro owner, I had to go with the fair way of listing things! (If my local trusted dealer only sold Ariens, I'd have one in the garage. If he sold both, I'd be in the loony bin trying to decide and still have my old POS.)
Yes Termy, your mouse pad is now the official mouse pad of the site, we thought you would enjoy that! (this comment has not been sactioned or passed by the Mods for approval)
Of course we have to thank OldToroOwner for contributing the images.

What do you mean by that Rob?
Date: 19 Dec 2005 9:44 pm
He means that the DNS change has happened and that the domain name www.opeonthenet.com now sends you to this site instead of the old one.

Termy wrote:

That's what I was hoping, it hasn't gotten to my provider's dns cache yet..
I saw the file change at about 7:30pm EST.
It'll propergate through the web and dns servers and caches through out the night. Can take as long as 48hrs according to some FAQs.. but I've seen it usually make it's way through the US in 24hrs.
Keep trying folks, make sure you hit your refresh button on your browser.
Are you getting it Termy?
The new site via the domain name?
Date: 19 Dec 2005 9:52 pm
Yep I am, I guess the internet really likes me!
Must be all those sites I link too. Search engines and servers like that kind of stuff.

Great to hear, it's like Santa making his rounds.. !
But it has more todo with the dns servers of your internet provider and their cache... it means your isp's dns server is probably "closer" to the original DNS server.
Date: 19 Dec 2005 10:04 pm
Well, I am on T1 high speed cable through Comcast and I am actually right next to their server router! Thats why when I am gaming, I usually have a ping of no more than 30 and I find it at 10 sometimes! I usually get download speeds around 800KBPS to 1.5 MPS.
Date: 19 Dec 2005 10:12 pm
That'll help, comcast an nationwide provider...
Cool.
I have a regional broadband provider.
Seems some other in NE have gotten it.

I understand that you are helping the mods setup there hosting and whatnot but I don't think the IP showing should be a big issue that you need to address. That makes sense, when it was all originally setup, the ip address was used. once the domain name makes it all the way through, a handfull of settings need to be changed from the ip address as the defualt url to the domain name..
So your seeing the home page from the domain name?
Then click on the link for the forum and get the ip addres/phpBB2/ ?

When you type in www.opeonthenet.com in to the address window of your browser, what do you get?
If you get the old forum, next hit the refresh button on your browser.
Do you still get the old forum? or The new home page?
If you get the new home page, it's reached you.
From the new home page, click on the Discussion forum.
You'll go to the forum after clicking in the link

Snowshoveler,
Which end of her do you think is high?
I don't think she is a redhead. She isn't tempermental enough. She's too quick to be a blond, so I'm guessing brunette. Light, medium, or dark haired I have no clue.

Chris,
You can bet she isn't dining on humble pie for sure.
I still think that if any of us ever meets her we'll find this sweet, little brunette, who like apple pie, is so shy she can barely look you in the eye.
Of course I still believe in the easter gerbil and the great halloween turnip too, so I might be off on that Paula prediction.

So. You wake up with a case of bed head. Happens to a lot of people. Especially worse in the dryer winter air.
But, I bet after a "little" make-up you aren't so funny looking anymore, and Eva Langoria and Terri Hatcher pale in our presence.
Hmmm, wonder if they still have those power tools on sale at Cdn tire. An angle grinder, palm sander, router and blow torch might make some lady an idea gift basket.

Sometimes I have to log in twice, but after the first time it shows I'm online in the list of who's online, but when I go to post it asks me to sign in. I clean the computer out at home and at work on a regular basis (everyday), cookies, cache, and history are done. So why does this happen? Please anybody can you help me???

Sorry that was a side effect I didn't anticipate.
It didn't think that would happen.
I tried, just a little hicup I didn't anticipate.
The only way around that one would have been to lock down the board completely till the domain name caught up with us, in hindsight.
PS: I'm going through the threads, it's not too bad.. it's just a few.. since I haven't been on all day, my "not read" topics are accurate.

It was the only way to keep complete access.
ramit i do beleive you have been assimilated.
resistance is futile.
have 3 beers and call me in the morning.
where do you learn all this stuff and how do you make sense of it.
i sure am glad folks like you are here.

And praise be the OPE tech that keeps our blowers blowing snow....
And the oilburner tech that keeps our family warm....
We all have our knacks.....
 Thanks Chris, Rob  .
Without you guys (all the good OPE tech/mechanics) and the mods, this place wouldn't be here and wouldn't be the resource it is. I'm just turning a few wrenches to help keep a good place running as best as I can, so you guys can help share the wealth of knowledge that is this board.

What time was it sherri?
If it was the first login for the night for you, on that computer when you got home, it may have been one time event after it readjusted it'self for the IP vs Domain name change of the settings I did at about 5:15 I think it was...
EDIT:
reading my own post it was more around 5:30 - 5:40pm.
If the last time you used that computer that it happened on was before that time, then came home after that time, that should have been the last time you've seen it for the rest of the night, forever really, unless something else is up.
Date: 20 Dec 2005 9:03 pm
I cleared all my temp internet files and tossed my cookies and it has stopped happening.
And for my $.02 worth....the knowledge about OPE and computer knowledge are both very impressive, especially because they both seem to be driven by a continous desire to learn more.

It happened this morning on this computer, and then at work first thing, then again after dinner at work and then when we got home again. It hasn't happened to Chris so I just know that he thinks I'm even more off my rocker then I was before.

The timing makes sense, bases on the domain when it started working last night, hence the double login in this morning at work.
After diner at work from the change I made , and then finally at home, which you hadnt been on since last night.
So I 100% believe you, and it should all be gone now.
I would guess your "after diner" at work was some time after 5:30pm.. if so then tomorrow you shouldn't see it again.
let me know.

The very first time I logged onto the site today was from the home computer this morning, did the double login in, then at work in the AM, then at work after a food break all with double logins. Chris was on last night after the change over I believe, I can't remember.
If your trying to slow down my posting so you can catch up just say so. :P  (Just joking :o )

It's lookin' good, but I still am seeing the problem where when I log out it counts all the threads as read.
Date: 21 Dec 2005 12:59 am
Ajace, if I understand how this forum works and I do believe I do, when you log out you are then considered a guest and a guest does not save cookies. Cookies are the reason for the ability to see whats read and whats not. So, I would say that is normal and you should not worry about it. If you are going to participate in the forum you have to be logged in anyway.

Termy hit the nail on the head.
It's all cookie based. The cookies are only associated with your account when your logged in.
If your not logged in, your status is "guest", so the status of "your" threads as Ajace can't be checked.
This is not exclusive to the OPE forum, but a norm on all others.
Date: 21 Dec 2005 9:05 am
Maybe I'm reading AJace wrong but I think he is saying that after he logs in, reads a few threads, leaves some unread and logs out, when he logs back in those threads he didn't read now show as read.

That happens to me. If I log out at home without reading everything, when I log back in I have to remember what I haven't read 'cause they all show read.

It just occured to me this morning....
If you are still having to loggin twice, or it happens once in a while,
I would guess it because you are using a bookmark made from the temporary link given out, that was the IP ddress... "http://64.130.14.114/"
when we first moved.
Please delete that bookmark, type in or click on this link..
http://www.opeonthenet.com/
Bookmark that.
After you log in you can always just bookmark the forum index page if you would like. But going in through the home page give us noticable traffic, which is a good thing.
All things are now supposed to be relative to the domain name..
opeonthenet.com , not the IP address.

Ajace,
Marshall has a point on the interpretation.
Could you please clarify.
You should see all thread/topic as being read when your logged out.
When you log back in, what happens to the threads/topics?
Do you now see some , new ones, has being "not read"?

While we are fixing problems with the forum, I'm wondering if someone could help me with mine.
On the topics page for a particular forum we have those bells in the bubbles on the left side of the page. Well, on a lot of those topics, the bells are in a ringing motion, but I don't hear them ring. I've turned the volume way up, yet I still hear nothing. I'm wondering if I'm missing a sound driver. Where can I download one?
Can anyone help me?

It took me a bit to figure out what you maybe talking about, at first I though maybe you were just busting my nutz... sorry....
But I think I now know what your asking about....
This thing:
= you did read it and it's popular
= you didnt read it and it's popular.
That's not a bell, but a "shaking" piece of paper to denote that it's a popular topic with lots of replies. I can see now how you can view it as looking like a bell. Sorry there's no bells to be heard.
Incase you did notice it, when viewing an index of the topics, look at the bottom of the page, to the left, there's a legend of what those little symbols mean that are next to the topic.
Hope that helps..

Take care of him for me Termy....
double logins....
If it happens again, and for anyone , when it does happen..
I need to know..
-where you started from..
-please watch the address bar and look at it before you login, make a note was it an IP address or the domainname.
-what it went to when you finally logged in.
These are hints that will help figure out why it's doing it to you. Other wise I can't pinpoint it for ya.

Just how long would you like to be saved for? I think I could probably come up with some homemade form of cryogenics to keep you on ice for as long as you'd like
However, there is this tiny little catch to it
