Date: 16 Dec 2005 5:52 pm
hi,
I recently was given an older sears 8 hp snowblower that someone had left behind when the moved their stuff from a storage unit. After cleaning the carb, i adjusted the linkage to the shifter, it would not go into neutral all the time. I snowblowed today and it worked great till i got to the sidewalk and the right side tire came off. looks like the axle broke. ive searched online and can not find anywhere to locate the part(s). I typed in the model number at the sears site and it came back with nothing. Any ideas where i can locate a new axle and anything else that might have broke online?? And also do you think something else may be wrong with it which caused the axle to break?? I figure whoever had it before me might have used it and tried to push it around without it being able to go in to nuetral, hence causing stress on the axle?? Thanks for any help.

Call Sears parts with the complete model number from your blower.
If they can't find it, it's because after 10 years, they don't have to keep that model on file anymore.
I had a 15 year old sears blower, at year 11 when I called for parts, they couldn't find my model number. Year before they did.
I had the manual with the part numbers. The part numbers were still good.
So it doesn't mean you can't get that parts.
Just might have to attempt to dig up a manual, or call MTD.
All my parts came in their bags.
I no longer have that snowblower.
here's a page that has the model prefixes to see if your's was a MTD unit.
http://www.outdoordistributors.com/mtddoor.htm
They sell nothing but MTD parts it seems.

RUH ROO RAGGY!!! (ala Scoobey Doo)
Your machine was made by Murray for Sears. Briggs Stratton bought them out & obtaining parts is almost impossible these days. Good luck finding ANY Murray parts. If Sears can't get them, I would start searching EBay for a used "donor" machine.

Thanks for the help. What your saying is so true, i cant find anything on this machine. I will give sears a call today, but not counting on much. Well at least it was a freebie. Its too bad i got the thing running great too. Guess i might be reading the reviews of snowblowers soon LOL

Doug,
You might be able to get someone to weld the one you have back together, or make a new one from your sample. Sometimes they are pretty simple.

hi its me again,
went to tear apart the axle off the machine today, also found that the housing that the axle sits in is broke, it fits between the sheet metal of the machine itself. sorry not very good with what these things are called. i want to call it a hub but dont think that is right. Showshoveler can you tell me where to look to find a diagram of the part numbers for this blower? thanks again

you need the little bronze bushing that is hex shaped on the outside and round inside ?
common part and any shop will have lots of them.
there is also a small plate that the bushing fits in on some models.
yours might not have this .
if you still need the part numbers i can get the missus to post the page out of the book.
only reason i had numbers is because i have a bunch of the manuals at work.
chris
p.s. easiest thing to do is just take the old broken part to shop and say help.
