hi all- I sold a 70 something 10-32 John Deere blower to a friend a couple years ago. I remember there was a large wing-nut type lever on one wheel..how does it dis-ingage so its not pos traction? I know I repaced that with a nut, so he'll need a new one but he can't understand how it is suppose to work? and I don't recall if it did or not. thank you for any info Geno

I always thought you unscrewed them to make it one wheel drive and screwed it in to make it two wheel drive.

Click model search at the top, and type in the model number. Deere has a real good parts lookup. You should be able to get a pretty good idea of what it does from the exploded view.

Look at part number 9 - thats a differential. There is no loosening of pins or spinners (in this case). It freewheels for turning, but applies power to both wheels when engaged.

I posted a similiar question last year. My old JD 726 has the wingnut. I had the differential locked and loosened it to unlock it, but it won't. I believe it was Snow Pro answered my question and said that they will get stuck, but can be "worked out. I never did get mine to loosen up, but don't mind. I prefer the diff locked, but just wanted to try it unlocked. I'll still take suggestions though.
Thanks, Kevin

Here is what worked for me on my 826. Loosened the wing nut, and gave the end of the axle a little smack. Gave me the clearance back to get one wheel drive. Things have a way of binding themselves together after awhile, and my unit was "locked" for years. Makes for much easier 180 deg. turns now. Try it.
Merry Christmas.
