Guys,
If you put Clancy's impeller kit on, you would really improve your slush blowing .

Fred and fellow members...Being out of warantee, I was looking into the impeller kit. My Ariens 824 does really well but more performance is always better!

Has anyone installed this kit? Do the paddles touch the internal surface of the housing, thus wearing down the paint protection?
Thanks in advance.
Rob

BR,
I put it on my MTD blower 3 years ago, it made about a 20-25 % increase in blower distance!! Super in wet snow or slush!!!!!!
I orderd it for my new blower, when it is out of warrenty, I'll install it!!
Marty, has it on his blower!!

Fred

Yes it does wear the paint of the housing.
When blowing is over, clean it and paint it!!

They work well on my MTD. They make it so I can throw slush. Snow just goes further. Those are not Clarence's kits. They are just some half a$$ed attempt I made to do what the real kits do. I just got myself in a situation where I needed them and it was too late to order. This season I had some trouble getting a hold of Clarence, now it is too late again. I need to write myself a note to call him in June.

Rob- Does Clarence go south for the winter??

Fred's link (above) to Clarence appears to be current.

Just because I could not get him does not mean anyone else will have the same problem. I tried to get him by email with a question or two. I never did get a hold of him. I'm sure I could have ordered the kits, but I had some unrelated questions. So I made due with what I had. I'm sure you won't have the trouble I did.

All this anti spam stuff, it's amazing anyone gets their email.

Just ordered a kit on line. Be interesting to see how it works moving the annoying Slush Puppy from the driveway. Actually slush puppy is a code word I use with the wife after eating too much Chinese food as I wobble to the bat room with clenched cheeks. No offense to the Chinese as they are awesome cooks, and I love their food, just my North American digestive system not in sync with veggies and other goodies they cook so tastefully.

I will be watching the mail for the kit. For the money seems like a excellent investment for the result. Work slowed down greatly today so I spend part of the afternoon tinkering with the blower. Put a carb on her last night, adjusted the friction wheel tension today. Called the plow guy not to plow as I have a new used blower. Sprayed some Fluid Film in the housing. Got some new gas, stacked wood. Wish I had a garage as I would like to change the auger belts but it is snowing and dark outside at the moment. The auger works well but bought some new belts just in case. Almost fried the belts Saturday when a small rock jammed the impeller. Looking for stuff to do on the blower. I think I am going to buy another one just to rip down and rebuild this winter. My wife does not understand what got into me as I want to stay outside after work and not come in. Must be a phase I am going through, a "More Power. More Snow, More Blower" phase. This is the first winter I am looking forwards to the snow. Since the impeller kit will make the blower work better in slush, that alone is well worth the kit.

I have Clarence's impeller kit on my 5hp MTD 2 stage. It can hurl the slush much better than "stock" with the modification, but it REALLY throws the powder! This pic is from last year, with only about 6" on the ground:

It never worked that well until after I installed the kit. I recommend it!

Drums - tell your wife there are worse things you could be doing instead of being home working outside on something you enjoy! :) You gain skills, knowledge, accomplishment & satisfaction on taking something nobody wants & turning it into something useful, sometimes even for a LOT less money than a new machine would cost! ENJOY!

Hi...

Look for the three (OF FOUR) rubber paddles near the center on the fast-spinning auger of this single-stage BCS snowblower attachment...

They DO work well throwing wettish or dry snow...

So.. the rubber impeller add-on for two-stages should help ...

That's a rubber flap across the top of the housing to keep the snow in...
Notice the robustness of the gearbox... with an oil refill on top...

Single-stage snowblower in action... impressed me for a 1-stage !

Marty, anyone ever tell you that you remind them of John Lithgow? If not, you remind me of John Lithgow. You movie star you. I see you were presented with a Golden Globe for all the great OPE restorations. Deservedly so.

Rats... my secret is out  Bet you folks didn't realize that I was a closet OPE nut, huh?

Actually, I hear this from time to time. It sort of surprises me.

They really need to offer higher handlebars for us tall folks - I just realized how much I tower over those handlebars!

The moment I saw the pics, I started thinking the same thing!
Hope all that "fame" doesn't keep you from running your OPE! :P

Have you seen some of the new snowblowers at Sears? At least here in Canada, the new machines have very high handles on them.

As far as the impeller kits go........quite simply they are AMAZING! They can really transform a snowblower. Especially a lot of the newer machines with the huge gap in the the impeller housing.

I have them on all my machines and quite frankly, I wouldn't concider running one without the kit installed. Probably the best bang for the buck that you can do to mod a snowblower. The kit will really find "lost" horsepower, that never knew you had. Forget about pulley sizes and belts and stuff, to boost performance.

Now, I must say that these kits are NOT for everyone. If you CAN'T handle the paint coming off, inside the impeller housing, then I suggest you pass. BELIEVE ME the paddles will take it down to bare metal in a heartbeat. My machines are always shiny inside there. Performance, not beauty, is what it is all about. Once the paint is gone though, they will not wear down the metal at all. This takes me to my second point.......durability. My oldest kit is installed on a machine that has been used over 3000 times  (since installation) and the rubber is holding up quite well. That would be, how many lifetimes, of homeowner use? :?:

BTW, I know Clarence personally and I can honestly say that he is a super guy. Very honest and hard working. He is quite busy, so getting in contact with him can sometimes be trying.

Go for it! You won't be disappointed!
