I bought a used Lawnboy Model 55382 (ST824) that I now find has a chewed up gear in the gearbox for the rakes. Someone used bolts instead of shear pins! Anyway, I go to the local Toro dealer to get the gear and find out you can't get it anymore. My only option was to buy the whole gearbox assy. at a price of $500+!!!! Ha!
Anyone know if there is another gear that would work? I've checked ebay, but I figured someone here might know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks, I have that diagram. I need the gear in the gearcase. That gear is no longer available. Do I have any options? Can another gear be made to work?
Thanks

Your best bet might be to post a picture in case someone might recognize the parts.

Hi Guys!
If you remove the gear cluster from the old unit and take it to the right place they might be able to match it up. In the Queens,Nassau,Suffolk area in New York there is a place called Dalk Gear And Belt. I have had luck finding pulleys, sheaves and gears that I couldn't find elsewhwere.
Check the yellow pages in your area under gear and belts you should be able to find an outlet for that kind of thing where you live.

I would suggest taking it apart before buying any parts as those old auger drives can be a bear to disassemble. One reason they may only sell the whole assembly is that it may not be rebuildable.Try contacting the manufacturer directly and see if they can offer any help.

your machine may possibly be built before the Toro takeover and could also be a gilson made machine.
if it is then Pete from this site may be your new best friend.

Thanks, I emailed Pete.
I've got the gear out, so I could post a picture if you thought it would help. I'm also going to check out a couple dealers this week.
THanks a ton for all your help.
