Date: 4 Dec 2005 8:37 am
I'm sure my neighbors love me - out at 7:30 with my 7524.
It blew wet packable - perfect snowball snow - a good 30'.
Putting floor finish in the chute and housing works, I can tell you that. NO WET SNOW STUCK ANYWHERE.
Picked up what may have been a bolt or screw in my own driveway, but hey, I've got touch up paint for the chip in the impeller housing.
Then I went and did the entire block. And across the street.
The 7524 WILL blow leaves too. What a mess that was. Did not see the 2" of leaves under the 3" of snow.
I hope it keeps snowing. I used the new machine for just an hour, and now want to use it for another so I can change the break in oil. It's the silver tube with the nut cap that's sticking out of the bottom of the back of the engine, right?
WOO HOO.
oh, and my wife thinks now ALL the neighbors are going to EXPECT me to be blowing their snow for them EVERY time.
Hmm. Maybe I ought not to be so enthusiastic and just do my immediate neighbors.

I was outside yesterday cleaning up leafs and debri off the driveway. The leafs get slippery when wet and the blowers make a big time mess with them. I also blew off the drive to make sure there were no rocks to be thrown or scratch / chip the paint inside the auger housing area.

Yes !
WOO HOO.
Cool, I am glad you enjoyed it :!:

She's not wrong.

I like to help neighbors too, but be mindful what your blowing.
I have a very smooth driveway, but several of my neighbors have seen better days... a rut here or broken pavement on a machine adjusted to 1/8" on the scraper bar...spells trouble.
Also that hidden newspaper or toy in their driveway will also play havok with your new machine.
Nothing worse than breaking down in the neighbors driveway...Unless she is a single CN. :o

I like to help my neighbors too...but there could be potential liability issues if you just go ahead and do it without first offering the service and getting their permission, especially if you accept compensation for the service. I don't claim to fully understand insurance issues regarding snow removal but it's something to be mindful of unless you're 100% sure that the neighbor isn't going to sue you if he/she takes a dive on a driveway you've cleared and is injured.

You know, a couple of times as I went around the block, uneven slabs of sidewalk jarred the machine and in some cases stopped me completely until I lifted the bucket up to go over it.
Scraper bars are a wear item afterall, but it'd be nice to get a few years from it first.
Later on after the snow melts off it I'll go wipe the machine down and dry it off and do damage control.
I think I'll save passes around the block for when there's a foot or more.
This morning was really just a first run to see what she'll do - because we know all us new snow thrower owners are just itching to see what our machines can do.
C'mon mother nature... show us what you've got! Only make it enough to warrant my wife not having to go to work, or me to school for that matter. Or let it snow on a weekend. I'm not being too picky, am I? Heh Heh... LOL

You know, I had not even thought about that. That's sad, when we have to have those kinds of concerns. If they sue me, I'll go trip over their uneven (some 2+") slabs of sidewalk. Then we'll be even
Like I said, I'm not going to do the neighbors (unless they look like Eva Longoria, or Terri Hatcher) as a regular thing. Just my immediate next door neighbors, some are older adults, one's been blowing snow for me for years, and it's time for payback, and others are just nice people so, I'll do it. Around the block will be reserved for extreme situations, and now after consent.
The things we have to be mindful of in this litigous day and age.
But anyway, the point is I blew snow with my new machine. And it was fun. I look forward to doing it again.

Newspapers are nasty, especially the new york times. They just throw them anywhere in the driveway. Long story short my old hahn-exclipse snowgiant sucked up several in a nieghbors driveway that was away on vacation. Stopped the unit twice and chewed spit out several others. That was scary, driving full blast real fast than WHAM it just stops and all you see is blue bag and paper wedged in the implaller. After the first one I used a shovel and chopped and checked for papers and found a bunch but some still hid from me. I only did all that work because he gave me 23 bucks to make sure it was clear when he returned. That blower could take a beating before it threw a rod because I think my father forgot to check the oil.

Well, I did get to "demo" my Snapper 824 for its new owner around 9am. It threw the slush a good 25-30 feet! Otherwise, all I needed earlier this am was a darned umbrella. Right now the sun is out ...

I cleared for the first time this year as well and just like last year, managed to find the newspaper buried under the snow (but not the Sunday paper like last year so it pretty much shredded instead of getting stuck and taking an hour to get it unstuck). Also like last year, I managed to dig up a few feet of low voltage cable. I guess I should have checke for it before the snow. Well, I know for next time...unfortunatley, there isn't much left.

we had 1/2" of slush on the ground, changed to rain, poured, turned to flurries, then rain and then the sun came out !!!
The cherry is still intact on the Toro !

Our 1st major snowfall is here now (Nova Scotia, Canada), 6-10" on the way...There's about 2" on the ground now. I was outside tweeking the old Craftsman snow-blower, got the carb setup so it will take throttle bumps from the governor without surging and black smoke. Both engines need a bowl gasket, the running one leaks a little as you use it. I managed to get spark on the 30 year old Gilson blower (10HP Tec engine), now if I can get the fuel primer to work I'll be all set. I ended up having to replace the coil, plug and condenser. I'm really hating those fussy Tecumseh carbs...I Might re-power the Gilson with a Brigg's in the near Future, that's if I can find a 10-15HP L-head around here for a good price...Or maybe a little Diesel engine from a reefer container or Trailer.. ...That would be cool....Big shots of black smoke as I throttle it...Maybe even a chrome stack for good looks....LOL.... :D

'Shoveler just went out to blow snow. He wasn't sure he wanted to as it is 9:30 pm here and he's going to work in the morning. I don't think I'll take any pictures to post tonight though of him working with his Ariens beast. Maybe tomorrow though. I'll keep it short the power has been on and off this evening.

How did the Craftmans fair for this storm? Did it work okay for you?

Nice snow pictures, BigRigTech.
Like to see some from the north east US too.

Nurse Daddy, glad it worked so well for you. This year is the first I have of the floor polish, ingenuity at it's best.

I believe that the first reminder of CN's this year or even on the new forum. Good deal, we can't forget them!
BRT, love the pictures. Pretty ominous looking sky.

I would give it a "B" grade, the snow is VERY heavy and starting to freeze. The carb is all or nothing so it still needs some work but overall it's working ok. I still have some to do in my yard, I just made a quick $50 doing one of the apartment buildings my mom manages (she manages 12 buildings)...Her super waited until this morning to tell her that he had a heart attack and can't shovel the doorway's this winter, now she wants me to do it for $50 a pop, it only took about an hour with this heavy stuff so the fluffy stuff will be even faster....I may get my big machine running, store it there and either Dad or I could do it...They live in that building anyways.

I see you park your vehicle the way we do before a snow storm.... wipers up! I also make sure it's facing the road though.
Date: 11 Dec 2005 8:12 am
Nope, not my car...LOL...I'm a Ford man, that's my neighbours driveway. My 02 Windstar and 88 F150 were buried in my driveway.
Date: 11 Dec 2005 8:54 am

chris
Date: 11 Dec 2005 10:49 am
