Hope you don't mind a review here of a ladder. It is outdoor equipment, just not powered.
Bought hubby a Little Giant Ladder for his birthday. After months of reading about them and hemming and hawing, bit the bullet after talking to dad about the two he owns. Wasn't sure what size to get, but we live on a hill, we have cathedral ceilings in our family room and although the 17ft ladder would have been lighter weight and easier to move around, I bought the 22 foot ladder. Figured you can never have too much ladder, but you can always fall short and regret it. This one is the model 1A which includes a lifetime guarantee and holds a max weight of 300 lbs. The model 1 most likely would have been totally adequate in all uses, but has a shorter term warranty and a bit more flex to it in the extension mode. We will still require our normal extension ladder in some uses, but our house is situated in such a way that even that ladder will only touch one corner of our roof.
Pros:
- built like a tank. I opened the box yesterday - couldn't wait for hubby. Used it to stain trim around my main level windows and garage doors. I hate heights, had this extended and got up to the 2nd to top rung of the ladder and felt like I was standing on the ground, till I looked down.
- Easy to adjust. Yesterday I used it on a bunch of different step ladder positions and heights, including having it longer on one side than the other. Very easy to configure. As mentioned above, solid as a rock in all ways I tested it.
- well made including the accessories. Hinges are super easy to use but built like a tank. I ordered him the leg leveler and wall stand-off which I did not try, but seem well made. Used the platform which came with it. While it will not lay level when the ladder is extended high and you use it on a higher step, it has a raised surface so it held my can of stain steady, even when I moved the ladder around a bit with it on the platform.
- comfortable to stand on even for long periods of time. Did not did into my feet even though I was on the ladder; up and down for about 3 hours yesterday.
- American made.
- Excellent service. Ordered from eladders.com also known as proladder.com. They've been very helpful over the past few months taking the time to answer all my questions. Order was shipped out the day after I order and received within 5 business days. Free shipping, came with free work platform which is fairly standard from most places.
Cons:
- I'd say the only con I can think of is the weight. The 22 foot ladder weighs in at 42 lbs. But that weight is also a pro for the ladder as well since it provides much of the stability.
Final Comments: I've compared this ladder to the Werner 12 foot Articulated ladder that my neighbor owns and we've been using for the past 2 years. The Little Giant is loads easier to finagle than the Werner, the hinges on the Little Giant blow that Werner away, it weighs only 6 lbs more but is 10 feet longer. More comfortable for long term use. I also compared the Little Giant to the Gorilla ladders available at Home Depot. While there was a tremendous cost savings, the Gorilla ladders are made overseas, are heavier than the Little Giant and don't have the company reputation behind them.
It's packed up in the box again and waiting for hubby to open it on Sunday. Hope he likes it!
